Although Espoo cannot help but be somewhat overshadowed by the world-class tourist attractions close by in Helsinki, the city does actually contain a number of sights and quality landmarks to be proud of. Always a crowd puller in Espoo is the extremely popular and rather tropical Serena Water Park, where tourists will find many attractions and be able to relax in warm bubbling pools, play in the fountains, zoom down the fast water slides, sunbathe on the surrounding cliffs, or enjoy a hot sauna in a cave created from an actual rock face.

The city's popular Cultural Centre is where it all happens and regularly stages well-attended events, concerts and theatrical events, while the Marketta Park (Marketanpuisto) offers the chance to explore a series of beautifully landscaped gardens. Other top tourist attractions in Espoo include the LänsiAuto Areena, where huge crowds gather to watch some of Finland's biggest ice hockey tournaments.

One of the leading tourist attractions in Espoo and the reason that many people head here from both Helsinki and Vantaa, the Serena Water Park is amongst the very best that Europe has to offer. This aqua park is always teaming will people during the hot summer months and features a series of pools, fast water slides, winding rivers and Jacuzzis, which suit a variety of ages and include a Children's Quarter for youngsters. The wave pool and 140-metres / 460-foot Villivirta rapids are just a couple of the highlights, while during the winter, there is even a ski centre.

Espoo Cultural Centre

The city's popular Cultural Centre plays host to many of the biggest events and gatherings, being located within the Tapiola district and next to the city's landmark Keskustorni tower. Just some of the attractions here include the Espoo Theatre, the Music Institute, and the city orchestra, which is known locally as the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Various music festivals, live music events and jazz concerts take place here.

Tapiola Church

The Tapiola Church is a modern landmark in Espoo and when it find opened in 1965, was considered to be somewhat controversial and met with mixed approval. Today, most locals have grown to love this stylish church and its grey concrete exterior. However, the main attraction is inside, where you will find a glass back wall, which floods the church and its parish hall with natural light.

Marketta Park (Marketanpuisto)

A popular free attraction off Ring Road III and within easy reach of Espoo city centre, Marketta Park is currently Finland's largest permanent garden exposition and features around 15 different show stands and landscaped gardens, together with many ornamental trees, planting schemes, ponds, fountains, pergolas, gazebos and playground areas. More than 100 organisations from all over Finland exhibit their various wares and products here. Numerous leading Finnish horticultural and gardening events take place here, being close to Helsinki, such as the Syyspuutarha, Trädgardsdag and also the ViherTek.

LänsiAuto Areena

A prominent stadium is Espoo, the LänsiAuto Areena is situated within the city's Tapiola district and alongside the ice rink. Established in 1999, the arena can accommodate just over 7,000 spectators and is mainly used for ice hockey games, being home to the celebrated local ice hockey team, the Espoo Blues, who regularly appear high up within the Finnish Championship League and have recently won the Tampere cup.
